I am profoundly grateful to all of you, who read and respond to my emails, participate in OUR Facebook Group, Brave Parents Raising Teens, and trust me as clients, to support you in more deeply connect and effectively communicate in your families.
Together we are co-creating a community of support for breaking generational patterns, parenting more consciously and launching authentically responsible young adults. You continue to bless my life, and I hope you feel the same.
So, here are 5 brief reminders about connecting with your teens and family this holiday break.
1.) Keep it simple.
When we keep our expectations in check, we are better able to enjoy “the moments” spontaneously. We can laugh with each other. We can enjoy the simple things like, “hanging out” with a movie or video game, walking the dog together or baking cookies (like when they were little). AND staying lighthearted helps attract our teens to us.
2. Co-create the holidays with your teen.
Ask open-ended questions about their hopes for the holiday.
Examples: What tradition do you want to keep? Or, what new thing would you like to do?
3.) Go for holiday experiences that connect.
If your family gives gifts at the holidays, you can co-create a shared experience, like a hike, a mini trip (like a thermos of hot chocolate in the car looking at lights), a museum or something particular to your family. My family always went to the barn to try on and use the new tack and other horse equipment the girls got. Then we went for a holiday ride.
4.) Remember HALT.
Don’t get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. That goes for teens and us, as parents.
5.) Take time for yourself.
Do something for yourself over the holidays. I love hiking, going to the movies by myself or taking a writing day retreat. Your THING will be different and unique to you. The point is to give yourself permission, make a plan and execute it! Do something you enjoy, just for you!

Check out what Jeanine L. had to say recently…
“What a game changer in my family! I loved my experience with the Back on Track program with all the latest research on healthy communication and connection with my teen. I even applied it to my pre-teen and the results were amazing! I went from feeling fearful about my teenager graduating and feeling like I wasn’t ready for him to “leave the nest” to confident and more at ease. We’ve grown so close and have had some great conversations on what life after graduation looks like. Now I feel excited for my teen to spread his wings and enjoy his transition to adulthood. It’s all thanks to you, Laura for helping me communicate heart to heart.”
May peace of mind and heart be yours this holiday season!
