The research is in!

I’ve been academically published in the Journal of Applied Social Science for social youth development research about what teens tell us impacts them about the adults in their lives.

If you do these things as a parent, you can deepen your connection with your teen and serve as preventative factors for risky behavior and mental health issues.

When we follow “their” formula for impact (based on research interviews) we have a much greater chance at being heard when we want to guide them too.

Here’s their list!

Teens say the roadmap to impact them is….

a.) having fun together

b.) learn/ teach a new skill

c.) solve a problem (together) with them

d.) protect them

e.) be present in a time of crisis with them.

This roadmap was the basis of my work in parent and teen communication highlighted in my award-winning book, How to Raise Respectful Parents: Better Teen and Parent Communication.
